Choosing the Right Homeschool Curriculum (Or At Least Trying To!)
Let’s be real for a second—choosing a homeschool curriculum is overwhelming. Like, “why are there 900 different math programs and none of them agree on anything?” overwhelming.
When we started our homeschool journey, I imagined it would be as simple as picking a box set and diving in. Spoiler alert: it’s not. It turns out, what works for one kid might be a total disaster for another. And even when you do pick something you think will work, there's a good chance you’ll change your mind… more than once.
And that’s okay.
This is all a new adventure for us. We’re learning, adapting, and figuring it out as we go—and honestly, that’s part of the magic. One child may absolutely love a hands-on, interactive curriculum while the other just wants to read, zone out, and get it done. Some days I love the structure; other days, it makes me want to toss the planner out the window.
So here’s our plan: we’re going to start somewhere. We’ll pick something that feels right for right now, try it out, and stay open to change. Because flexibility? That’s the real key to homeschooling success (or at least sanity).
We’re also constantly on the lookout for new resources—free printables, cool apps, digital downloads, YouTube channels, you name it. If something isn’t clicking, we’ll pivot. If we find a better fit, we’ll switch. That’s not failure—it’s growth.
Now, Let’s Talk Scheduling…
Ah yes, the homeschool schedule. Or as I like to call it: the great experiment.
We’re still figuring this part out too. Do we start early? Do we follow a routine? Do we even need a routine? All valid questions that I currently do not have solid answers for. 😅
But here’s the deal: I’ll be testing out a few different scheduling ideas to see what works for our family—and I’ll share the wins, the flops, and everything in between. So stay tuned for that post, because if you’re like me, you’ll probably want to know what worked and what didn’t before diving in yourself.
Final Thoughts
Homeschooling isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being present. We’re learning what works, what doesn’t, and giving ourselves the grace to change course when we need to. If you’re on this journey too, just know: you’re not alone.
And hey, if you’ve got a curriculum you love—or one you tried and tossed—drop a comment below. Let’s share tips, vent a little, and help each other out.
We’ve got this. 💪
