Our First Week of Homeschool: The Adventure Begins
Well, it’s official—we’ve started our homeschool adventure! And let me just say, it went better than I thought it would. Honestly, the hardest part so far has been trying to get back into a schedule (which, let’s be real, is tough for everyone after summer).
The boys are enrolled in a new hybrid homeschool program, and they had an absolute blast. I couldn’t be more excited about this choice for them. Of course, there were a few first-day hiccups—it was the first day for so many kids, so that’s expected—but overall, it was wonderful. Smaller classrooms, plenty of outdoor time, climbing trees, and playing outside for “hours”… this feels like the right fit for them.
At home, things are going pretty well too. Mornings can be a little chaotic, but for the most part, the boys are listening and getting through their work. What I love most is that they actually enjoy the work, and they can truly be themselves in the process. If they’re struggling, they usually let me know—sometimes not until they’re completely overstimulated and hit their breaking point, but that’s something we’ll keep working through together.
We’re also trying lots of new things, and I can’t wait to see how the boys grow through this journey—and how we grow as a family, too. One of the biggest areas we’re focusing on is social-emotional learning. That’s been a struggle for the boys, so I put together a year-long curriculum to help. On top of that, I’m creating extra activities I know they’ll love, because I really believe in teaching them in ways that connect to who they are.
Some of the tools we’re introducing include:
✨ Lego Therapy – building while learning about emotions and teamwork.
🎨 Art Therapy – giving them space to express themselves creatively.
Now, I’m not a therapist, and I don’t claim to have all the answers. But if something works for my kids, I’m going to share it—because every child learns differently. And like I’ve said before, not all kids thrive under a “one size fits all” system. If we can meet them where they are, we can help them become who they’re meant to be without the unnecessary stress.
Another win? The binders I created for them have been a game-changer! Organized, personalized, and easy to use—they’re already proving to be a great tool, and I can’t wait to see how much more they’ll help as we move forward.
This is only the beginning of our homeschool journey, but I’m already excited about what’s ahead. There will be challenges, yes—but also growth, laughter, and so many little victories. And I can’t wait to share them all with you. 💕
